This past Friday, October 5, 2007 the 9th grade Harlan Community Cyclones had a tough matchup. The 4-1 Cyclones, were matched up against the 5-0 Titans of Lewis Central. Lewis Central was just coming off of a victory against the Monarchs of Denison, the only team Harlan has lost to, and the Cyclones were coming off of a Homecoming blowout against Perry, 39-7.
Both teams confidences were soaring as they were headed into the week 6 match-up. Harlan came out and shut the Titans down on offense. Then the 1st play from scrimmage the Cyclones running back Dylan Barratt took the ball 46 yards into the end-zone to catapult the Cyclones into the 7-0 lead. Harlan had no troubles after that. Their defense continued to dominate, and their offense marched down the field every single drive. After a punt return for a touchdown, the HCHS freshman took a 34-0 lead into half-time. Things just kept on rolling in the 2nd half as the Cyclones became victorious, 47-0.
This win tore apart Lewis Central's hopes of going undefeated, and gave Harlan confidence knowing that they had just dominated the team that defeated the Monarchs who had previously beat them in a very tight contest.
Below are a coupleof interviews with HCHS freshman on the football team. The first is with running-back Dylan Barratt, the second is with tight-end Adam Cave.
