Bruns and Rueschenberg Finish Second at Hawkeye 10

Listen to Coach Bruns' radio report here.

The Harlan Cyclones ended up getting 8th place at the Hawkeye Ten Conference Tournament in Denison on Tuesday, May 4. The highlight for the Cyclones was Brock Bruns and Mitchell Rueschenberg getting second place in the #1 doubles tournament. You can see all the results in the pictures below.

The Cyclones host Kuemper on Friday and Thomas Jefferson on Monday. Districts will be held in Carroll next Wednesday, May 12.

Coach Bruns' comments:

It was great to see Brock and Mitchell have a great day by getting 2nd place. They beat a good Creston team and a very tough Denison team to reach the finals. We were up 5-2 against Denison but before we knew it it was 5-5. We stepped up it up and won three of the last four games. Brock raised his level in the final game, up 7-6, and got all his first serves in which made it much easier for us to close it out.

In the finals, we just struggled to find a way to win games as the Sturm brothers are so good devensively. It forced us to play more agressivley which led to mistakes. I'll give all the credit to Atlantic, they played a great match.
