More on School 2.0

What is School 2.0? I will define it for you over the next several months starting today.

A big part of School 2.0 is using Web 2.0 tools. What are they, you ask? Here’s a brief history lesson. Web 1.0 was the web from it’s beginning up until a couple of years ago. Web 1.o was read only. That is, you used the internet to read and research. That was about it. Web 2.0 is read and write. It is all about user created material such as: blogs, youtube, wikis, google docs, Toondoo etc. All of these allow people to create content and then share it with anyone and everyone on the web. It is not a coincidence that Time Magazines person of the Year for 2006 was “You”. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1569514,00.html

These Web 2.0 tools will help transform schools into 21st century schools if teachers use them in creative ways. Take a look at this video created by Kansas State University Professor Michael Wesch . The video does a great job of explaining it.
