The time of year has come again when seniors everywhere are tempted to kick back, relax, and completely ignore their studies. What is the cause of this sometimes fatal disease? Well, after extensive research, we here at the HCHS kids-news room found that seniors lack the motivation to continue on with their schoolwork. Reports say that they have made plans for a new chapter in their life, usually work or college, and are anxious to start that chapter rather than finish the old one. To combat this age-old problem, teachers often assign loads and loads of projects, papers, or both. Many times these undertakings will carry a large percentage of the total grade for that class. The thought behind it is that the kids will have to stay on task to save their grade. However, this has been met with mixed results. Often the kids cannot overtake the power of senioritis and are sucked into its hold, typically ending in bad final grades for their high school careers. Possible consequences of this include action by their future colleges. In some instances these colleges have even revoked the student’s acceptance into that school. However, these cases are rare and can generally be ignored as severe side-effects. If you, or someone close to you seems to have caught a case of senioritis, do not panic. Make sure they get plenty of sleep, plenty of water, and make it to school on time. The rest will take care of itself. Below is a slide show describing some of the facts on senioritis.
