As the school year is quickly drawing to a close, there are only two newsblog entries left for each class. You might wonder(or not) what will happen to the Newsblog over the summer. Well, besides my occasional entry, I am asking for your help.
The Winter 2007 CWI classes are the first to go into the HCHS Alumni Newsblog Group(HANG). You helped make the NewBlog what it is right now and I want to thank you for your hard work. The Newsblog is no doubt still in it’s infancy but it will continue to grow as the years go on.
My vision for the Newsblog is to eventually have a network of HANG staff around the world in all different fields and walks of life. Imagine the seniors in the class this year doing a story next year on what it is like to move into college or how college is different from high school(appropriate stories only!). Imagine five years from now as this years seniors go out into the real world and want to share there experiences with high school students. They could easily post pictures and video of their vacation to China or what job interviews are really like. The posibilities are endless.
Of course that is where you come in. I am forming the HCHS Newsblog Writer’s Society(HNWS) for people that want to continue participating in writing for the Newsblog after they leave this class. For those still in high school, all you have to do is put one story a month(you can work in groups). Since this is volunteer, you can do any story that you choose as long as it is school appropriate. It can also be entire games or performances from HCS. For those out of high school, I ask for one story a year to maintain membership of the HNWS. I will also allow any student in HCHS to join this group as well, so be sure to spread the word! Come see me if you want to join and I will show you what to do.
Why would anyone do this?
1. Because they enjoyed doing the Newsblog this year.
2. Because they love writing, especially blog writing.
3. They plan to go into journalism.
4. It will look good on a resume.
5. Blogging and Videoblogging are a hot internet activity right now with young people throughout the world and you want to be in that group.
6. As you get older, you may want to give something back to HCHS and to high school students in general. This would easily allow you to do this.
7. You can always say “I was Time magazine’s Person of the Year in 2006!”
Again, I want to thank you for making the Newsblog what it is today. I hope you consider working on it in the future.

PS I know the names of the groups may not be the best. Let me know via comments if you have a better name.
