HCMS 7th Grade wins, 8th grade places third in the track meet

The Harlan Community Middle School Track boys did pretty well at the home track meet. The 7th grade boys dominated the other four teams to win the 7th grade side of the track meets. The 8th grade boys finished third behind Lewis Central and Glenwood. There were some very exciting finishes in a lot of the running events. After a few boring events there was a very close finish in the 1600 meter medley relay. Harlan was leading with about 800 meters to go and Matt Brace had the baton for Harlan. Glenwood’s team however caught Harlan and ended up beating Harlan by .01 seconds. Another very close race came in the 7th grade 800 meter run. A Creston guy lead the first 500 meters but all the sudden John Schwarte, one of Harlan’s top long distance runners, catches him and they are side by side until they come towards the turn towards the finish line. Schwarte pulls away and wins the race and another Harlan runner, Seth Lansman, finishes second. The most exciting race of the night was the 7th grade boys 4×400 relay. Harlan was behind by a bunch until Luke Musich got the baton and cut the margin to under 2 seconds behind Creston. The anchor, Jake Nutter, caught and passed the kid the anchor from Creston and won the race by less than half a second. These are the 8th grade results(I couldn’t get the 7th grade results because I couldn’t record them).
