Barack Obama in Harlan 11-24-07

At 5:40 PM on 11-24-07, the good size crowd in the Commons area at the Harlan Community Middle School drew quite anxious to see Illinois Senator and Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama. As many people say, he has an electric excitement about him which I must admit I felt tonight.

During his hour long speech, he hit on many issues on why he should be the next President of the US such as education, health care, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, taxes etc. Much of what he said during his official speech was very general and I'm sure quite similar where ever he goes.

Then came the question and answer session. This was by far the best part of the night and unfortunately the shortest. This is where we saw Barack at his best actually responding to questions on education, health care and gun control. He actually gave specifics as well which is a plus. Barack actually said the question/answer part was the "fun part" of these town meetings which I could see by his thoughtful answers. Obama definitely is bright, funny and and has a vision for the future.

On a side note, I actually had an exchange with Barack as it came down to the last question of the night. I had my hand up as did a former student of mine. He called on her but she said to let her former teacher ask the question. So he looked at me. I told Barcak to let my former student ask the question. COOL!!

My son and daughter also got autographs of Barack as well. Enjoy the pics and video!!
