HCHS Girls Basketball Preview

Interview with Mr. Vis (Girls Basketball Coach)

This is Shane Conrad with HCHS news and I'm here today with Coach Vis of the Harlan Community Cyclones girls basketball team for a preview of their upcoming year.

Q: How many returning starters do you have?

A: 2, Brittney Bogler and Amber Leinen

Q: Are there any seniors on the team?

A: Yes 2.

Q: Who are they?

A: Kari Bartleson and Lexi Hoffman

Q: What do you expect from the girls this year?

A: To put forth great effort, to play as a team, and to have a successful season.

Q: Who do you expect to be the team leader this year? Why?

A: Couple different area. Kari and Lexi, and Brittney and Amber, but combined effort from different areas. Many different leaders in different areas, but mainly in Kari and Lexi

Q: Do you expect there to be chemistry?

A: Yes, during camp we sat together during lunch and had a good time with a good bunch of girls.

Q: What is normal practice like?

A: Our method is to start full-court, free shoot for a while, defense and rebounding, press/press break, offense, and occasionally designate free throw shooters for conditioning.

Q: When is the first girls basketball game?

A: November 29th

Q: How is the conference looking?

A: Better, Kuemper has a lot of girls back. Denison has all returning starters. Glenwood has Stewart back, and Lewis Central has Hughes.

Q: What is your opinion on the new rule about no standing up while the ball is in play?

A: Upset because it was 1 to a few coaches abusing it so everyone gets punished not as for me because I tend to sit down more, but may need to designate someone to pull me back down when the game gets intense and I’m in the heat of the moment.

Once again this has been Shane Conrad with HCHS news and I'm signing off, but first I'd like to send out a thanks to Coach Vis for taking the time out of his busy schedule to do this interview.
