This weekend, an epic event took place. It's a little something we here at HCHS News like to call, Extreme Surrender II. We, Danielle2 and Dusten2, attended and are PSYCHED to report that it was awesome, and to give a report about all that went down. First, though, we'd like to give you a run down on an interview with the FBC (First Baptist Church) Youth Pastor, Jay Thornton.
Danielle2 and Dusten2: So, why exactly are we having Extreme Surrender, Jay?
Jay: In an effort to provide a positive environment for kids to come and learn about Jesus and what he means to them, also to help bring students closer to Jesus.
D&D: What kinds of activities were there at this event?
J: There was a concert (Rush Of Fools), worship, numerous small-group discussions broken down by age group and gender, a movie, and learning oppurtunities.
D&D: Could you give us a little background on the band?
J: They are a group of worship leasers. The band has been together for a very short amount of time. They've had a number one hit song, and their album has been on the Christian chart for 5-6 months. To learn more, you can go to www.myspace.com/rush of fools
D&D: How many are signed up for the event?
J: 90 people signed up, but due to the weather we only expected 40 or so to be here.
D&D: Any super duper plans for next year?
J: No, we're not doing it next year. We don't have the funds... :(
D&D: Are there any other crazy plans for this year's BYF season?
J: We're going to Branson Missouri for a ski trip over Christmas break, where there will be a TON of Christian bands. There's a mission trip, movie scavenger hunt, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
D&D: Do you have to be in BYF or go to FBC to attend this event, or other related ones?
J: No, it's open to everyone!
D&D: Do you necessarily even have to be Christian to attend?
J: No, there are Non-Christians attending.
D&D: Any last words you'd like to add?
J: I'm super thrilled to have my favorite student Danielle here at the event (you heard right folks, came straight from that beast's mouth). I'm sorry the weather has gotten in the way of the event.
So, yes, as two super awesome gals that attended the super awesome event, it's safe to say it was super awesome. Try typing that five times fast! The concert was awesome, there was tons of fun to be had, but let's see what others have to say...
D&D: So, did you have fun?
Amber: Of course I did.
Kathleen: Yes.
Sara: I had a blast!
D&D: What did you think of the speaker?
A: Um... I thought he was very inspirational.
K: He was funny and had an interesting testemony
S: He was really funny
D&D: And the concert?
A: It was amazing, and I was dissappointed I had to leave early.
K: It was very bright, loud, and i liked the songs because I knew them.
S: Rush of Fools totally rock. The concert was alot of fun...
too bad i had to leave early
D&D: Did you have fun when we spent the night (Friday) at the host homes?
A: I had a lot of fun at Michelle's house.
K: A lot of fun! But... the host home morning was horrible!!! Stupid wake up song!!!
S: That was crazy fun.
D&D: How late did you stay up?
A: I don't know... I fell asleep before everyone else... Lol.
K: Past 3:45... AM!!!
S: 2:30. D*Nelly and I were hyper!
D&D: Was this worth going to?
A: Totally!!!
K: YES!!!
S: YES! It was so worth it because I learned a lot and has soooo much fun hanging out with my friends!
So there you have it. A super fun weekend wrapped up (conveniently) into one tidy Newsblog. There was a great time to be had, and we're sorry if you missed it. That must be depressing for you... In any case, in the spring we should be having Disciple Now II if all goes well. We hope to see all of you there! This has been Dusten2 and Danielle2, for HCHS News, signing off.
