Flag football, a chocolate contest, and stores with big sales were just a few of the many fun activities that took place in Okoboji this weekend. Traffic was horrific due to the many people that showed up to the annual Winter Games. This weekend festivity was a three day party to celebrate the winter season. Many people enjoyed activities such as snowmobile and quad races, hockey, broomball, various concerts, and ice skating. A few daring people enjoyed the Polar Plunge which consisted of jumping into a hole in the ice, and into the water; all being done in their swimsuits.
As cold as that sounds the weather was beautiful this weekend, but weather was only part of the reason many came out to this joyous time. Activities were unlimited and everyone had something to do all time. Many agreed that the Saturday night feature of a bonfire was the best. Every year residents of Okoboji create a big bonfire with their Christmas trees; they call this the Burning of the Greens. Many commented how much there was to do and so little time to do it in, but they all had a blast and hope to go again next year. The directors hope that next year will bring a great turn out just as this year has brought; maybe even a better one. When your parents need a winter activity or vacation next year or in years to come, think about suggesting Okoboji. A good time brings the inner child out of everyone!

Chocolates Galore! -- Yummy! This was what lay in wait at the Chocolate contest Saturday afternoon, and this was only one of the many displays. Naturally, I indulged myself in many a rich chocolate truffle, and was feeling delightfully full upon leaving. On this particular stand, there was an assortment of sweets, including a chocolate covered marshmallow, caramel apple truffle (my favorite here), and a chocolate covered jalapeno (?), which my mother said tasted awful. :)
Roseberry Truffles Courtesy of the Inn at Okoboji -- Oh my! This one received my vote. This was the Inn at Okoboji's stand, making one of their specialties, Roseberry Truffles. These consist of Blueberries, Blackberries, Raspberries, Dried Rose Petals, and German and Belgian Chocolate, all featuring a chocolate rose on top. Delicious and grandly displayed!
Fun w/ Friends -- Yes, that is a bus, and yes it is parked on a frozen lake. People from all over came this winter to enjoy the fun and laughter that accompanied the winter games. It's a great winter time to spend with friends and family, as spring is just around the corner.
Okoboji Boat Works -- Where Everything Happens -- Lots of people, tons of action. This is Okoboji Boat Works; this is where it all happens. Behind me are hundreds of cars, buses, campers, quads, snowmobiles, and of course, ice houses, filled with happy people enjoying Winter Games 2008.
Yes, It's a Sofa -- Yeah, I know, crazy. Why didn't I think of that!
Winter Gaming -- Here are all those people. It's hard to tell, but there is a lot more than you think. And this is only part of it!!! That white tent in the center-- That's the Polar Plunge. Brrrr....
Sunset --It Doesn't End Here.... -- Nighttime over the winter games, but it's not over yet....
Taboggan Rides -- So Cold!!! -- We still have tomorrow!!!!!
--Thanks Again--
