HCHS Boy's Tennis Open Season With Win Over TJ

The HCHS Boy's tennis team opened with a 5-4 victory over Thomas Jefferson on Friday, April 4. Cody Petersen(#1 seed) and Lucas Larsen(#2 seed) paved the way for the Cyclones with victories in both of their singles and their doubles matches. "Cody and Lucas played excellent tennis tonight both in singles and doubles, especially for the first meet of the year" Coach Chad Bruns said. "They hit the ball with a lot of confidence today."

Willy Henrich also played a key role in tonights win winning his singles match and also his doubles match with his partner, Josh Lefeber. "Willy played extremely well in his debut as a varsity player. His forehand was very effective for him today" Coach Chad Bruns commented.

HCHS 5 TJ 4

Singles:

#1 Cody Petersen defeated Taylor Neumann 6-0, 6-0

#2 Lucas Larsen defeated Kevin Van Kampen 6-2, 6-2

#3 Jacob Harmon lost to David Coberly 6-4, 4-6, 1-6

#4 Mitch Gross lost to Taylor Reihofski 3-6, 4-6

#5 Josh Lefeber lost to Brian Van Orsdol 3-6, 4-6

#6 Willie Henrich defeated Jerry Adrian 6-1, 6-3

Doubles:

#1 Cody Petersen/Lucas Larsen defeated Neumann/Kampen 6-0, 6-0

#2 Jacob Harmon/Mitch Gross lost to Coberly/Reihofki 6-7(5-7), 4-6

#3 Josh Lefeber/Willie Henrich defeated Van Orsdol/Adrian 6-2, 6-2


Next week, the Boy's tennis team plays Lewis Central, Audubon and Denison.
