We interviewed Coach Mitchell about the JV soccer team.

1. Are you pleased with how JV is doing?
CM: I'm happy with the improvements that we have made and with having so many freshman it's important they learn and get better each game.

2. What do you expect out of the kids for the rest of the season?
CM: Continued improvements, continuity, and communication.

3. If your could change or improve something what would it be?
CM: Communication among all of our players.

4. What are your strong points?
CM: Goal keeping has been strong as well as mid field plays.

5. What are your weaknesses?
CM: Communication, defenders, and passing attack.

6. Do you think they are playing to their best ability?
CM: No, but it's because we haven't been able to field the full team we want and there is many new young guys.

7. What do you plan on doing so you can come out with victories?
CM: Continue to work and have better practices.

8. How important are practices?
CM: So far we've played like we practiced, which isn't to the best of our ability.

9. Are there drills you do to prepare the guys?
CM: Yes, corner kicks, passing, and clearing the ball on defense.

We also interviewed some JV players; Jose M, Ben K, and Justin M.

1. Whats your strategy to win the rest of the games?
Justin: I think we need to play more defensively and then we will score more goals.
Ben: Pass the ball more and communication
Jose: Play hard and score goals.

2. Why'd you go out for soccer?
Justin: Because it's different and I played Iowa Games this summer, and it was fun.
Ben: Because it's fun to play.
Jose: I love soccer.

3. How do you like Mr. Mitchell as your coach?
Justin: He's a very laid back coach and keeps things interesting.
Ben: He's pretty cool, laid back, and doesn't act like he takes things way serious.
Jose: I think he's cool man, I like him, he's cool.

Harlan JV and Varsity Girls First Soccer Game

BubbleShare: Share photos - Powered by BubbleShare

The Harlan girls soccer team had their first game on April 1st against Creston. This game was very exciting and nerve racking for both the JV and Varsity players. Of course they wanted to win this being their first game and all but for the JV it was a very dissapointing loss. The final score for the JV was 0-3. Then the Varsity took the field and pulled it off coming out with a 3-1 vistory over Creston.

Soccer Boys Fought Till The End

Even though we lost more games then we won, i still think out team was really good. We lost ten games and won four. I know that sounds pretty bad but i think we should do really good next year. There should be quite a few freshman next year that are going to go out for soccer and some of them are really good. I’ve played with them quite a bit and same with all the high schoolers.

We played Spencer yesterday morning at 10:00 o’clock in Stormlake. It was a really good game until there were 2 minutes left in the first half. Thats when they scored 2 goals and the score was, Spencer 3 and Harlan 1. On the specer team there was this one guy that had like 34 goals in the season. There school record was 32, which he beat it.

The word on the street says that Mr. Vis might be coaching us next year. I think that would be good for us cause he seems to know quite a bit about soccer and maybe we can win some more of our games.

Harlan Community Boys Soccer

The Harlan Community boys soccer team is in a little slump by losing the past 2 days to glenwood 4-0 and tonight to Thomas Jefferson 6-0. Glenwood and TJ are really fast and are ranked high in the state rankings. Andrew Bierl suited up for the first time against Glenwood. The game vs. Glenwood was played at the Creighton complex where the Bluejays play their games. The Cyclones are improving, but they are so young and inexperienced with losing a lot of seniors from last years state tournament run. They also have two new coaches. The Cyclones hung with glenwood for a half but then gave up some goals.

Girl’s Soccer Sneak Peak

Below is an interview with Coach Vis and his views on the upcoming soccer season.

Interview with Coach Klaassen on the upcoming soccer season

1. What does the soccer program look like for the upcoming season?

Coach K- very broad question, lots of unknowns, lots of players without experience, and players playing in new positions.

2. What are some goals for your team this year?

Coach K- Improvent from last years success, have a winning record, win the first game to get momentum going.

3. Will it be a challenge to fill the shoes of Coach Michalik?

Coach K- Good question and yes because he knew so much about this sport.

4. What are some games you are looking forward to this year?

Coach K- The Tri-Center game, match-up with Coach Mickalik.

5. Are there any freshmen likely to start varsity this year?

Coach K- I have no clue because I havent seen any of them play.

6. How are you going to replace last years seniors like Shawn Doran, Jared Boysen, Adam Leinen, and Dustin Hansen?

Coach K- With players that had experience from last year. They will have to step it up, and returning the goalie will really help.

7. Who is returning from last years state tournement team?

Coach K- Kyle Haake, James Juhl, Andrew Bierl, Matt Long, Alex Boysen, Brady Greer, Derek Schwery, Chris Schwery, Jeffrey White, Chad Kroger, and Mark Conry
