HCHS Cyclones Open Season With Win Over Abe Lincoln

The Harlan Community boy’s tennis team opened their season with a big 5-4 win at Abe Lincoln of Council Bluffs on Tuesday, March 27

“What a great way to start the season”, Coach Chad Bruns said. “We replaced four of our six varsity players from last year so to come out here and get a close 5-4 win is just great for our teams confidence.”

The teams split the six singles matches with AL winning seeds one through three and Harlan winning four through six. “AL had a very strong lineup at the top of their roster so I was very proud of Bailey(4 seed), Lucas(5), and Jack(6) stepping up and getting wins”, Bruns added.

It came down to the doubles matches where Harlan won two out of three. After losing the number two doubles match, the Cyclones won at number one doubles and at number three doubles. “Brock and Bailey played an outstanding match together at number one doubles. They served well, hit aggressively and pulled away at the end winning 8-4. Jack and Lucas struggled early but played great down the stretch winning five straight games to secure the win for our team,” Bruns said.

The Cyclones travel to St. Albert’s on Monday, April 2 and to Denison on Thursday, April 5.
