Nickelodeon’s World Wide Day of Play by Tara Benner

Saturday, September 26, 2009, Nickelodeon will be having their 7th annual World Wide Day of Play. The World Wide Day of Play is a program hosted by Nickelodeon and all of its corresponding channels and websites in which they shut down their signals from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. This program is sponsored by the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, who will be hosting the NYC Race for Kids event on this day.
The World Wide Day of Play program is part of Nickelodeon’s health and wellness efforts. It encourages kid’s to put down their electronic devices, shut off their computers and televisions, and go outside to play. Over 250,00 kids of ages 5 to 18 are expected to participate in this event.
This program was brought about by alarming statistics stating that the obesity rate has more than tripled for children ages 2 to 19 in the last 30 years. Nickelodeon hopes that this program will inspire kids to get up and play every day. For more information on this event, you can visit: www.worldwidedayofplay.com
