HCHS Boy's Tennis Lose Opener to Abe Lincoln

The Harlan Community boy's tennis team opened their season at Abe Lincoln of Council Bluffs on Monday, March 29th. The Cyclones played well but ended up losing 3-6 to fall to 0-1 on the season.

"I have to say that I am proud of how the team played today despite the loss," Coach Chad Bruns said. "AL has beaten us soundly for quite a few years now so opening up the way we did today shows that we have improved from last year. We lost a couple of 6-8 matches today and had the ball bounced our way a few more times we could have found ourselves in a position to win the meet."

Alec Plagman, Kaleb Kaster and Josh Cheek got the wins for HCHS today with Alec and Kaleb winning in singles and Josh and Kaleb winning in doubles. "I was very happy with how Kaleb and Alec played in singles and also how Kaleb and Josh played in doubles today," Bruns added. "Kaleb started slowly but his confidence grew as the match went on and rolled off seven straight games to win 8-3. Alec also had a great win at #2 singles. Alec played at the number two spot today after playing the number five spot most of last year. He handled the change extremely well."

Josh and Kaleb were playing doubles together for the first time today and won their match 8-2. "Josh and Kaleb played outstanding doubles today," Coach Bruns said. "They served and volleyed well and really dominated the match after it was close early."

Next week the season really gets into full swing as the Cyclones travel to St. Albert's on Monday and Denison on Thursday and host Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday.
